Critical Acclaim for "Notte di Tempesta" CD Concert tour

"Virtuoso opening – "Da Tempesta" from Giulio Cesarea. Claire Meghnagi possesses a beautiful, crystal clear powerful voice, and delightful contemporary baroque style: beautiful ornaments and vibrato control exactly as required… beautiful, gorgeous sound. I especially loved the two arias sequence:  First lyric - "Wil the sun forget to streak" from Solomon, and immediately after the virtuoso coloratura aria "Che non puo la Gelosia" from Aci, Galatea e Polifemo. The last piece was another virtuoso aria from Rinaldo that floated in Meghnagi's voice in spectacular ease and lightness. The audience demanded an anchor, and received Gershwin's Summertime.  Claire Meghnagi sang with much gleam and grace, and Barrocade's period instruments polished playing, full of rhythm and energy, showed how beautifully music crosses the limits of time."

Claire awarded the Rosenblum Prize for the Performing Arts
Claire has been honored with the Rosenblum Prize for the Performing Arts, as outstanding artist of the year 2016. This great award, one of the most important in Israel, recognizes Ms. Meghnagi's many contributions to the performing arts, as well as her accomplishments as a representative of culture for her homeland Israel.
From the Jury's announcement:
"Soprano Claire Meghnagi's singing and performance remain etched in the memory of listeners already after their first hearing, as do her stage presence, her voice exuding beauty, and the way she naturally conveys diverse musical styles, such as traditional Jewish piyutim, baroque operatic arias or contemporary avant-garde music.  Meghnagi's emotional authenticity and her spontaneity are captivating, and make her artistry unique.
Meghnagi has established herself today as an acclaimed international opera singer with many accomplishments and achievements of her artistry. Several important newspapers, including the New York Times, the Guardian and the London Times, praised her singing; her performances have taken her to some of the world's most prestigious venues, among them the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Opera House, as well as leading opera houses and concerts halls in Moscow, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, the United States and Israel; and she was featured as a soloist with the most prestigious ensembles like Les Arts Florissants, The Israel Philharmonic and the Kölner Akademie.
She sang leading roles in operas by Monteverdi, Handel, Verdi, Stravinsky, Massenet and Gounod, amongst her many roles. While performing internationally, she has settled with her family in Israel, where she can be heard in the country's most important concert venues performing baroque and classical repertoire, as well as singing alongside her father, cantor Isacco Meghnagi, the traditional sacred music of the Jewish community of Libya.
For all this the Jury committee has decided to award Claire Meghnagi the Rosenblum Prize for the Performing Arts, as outstanding artist of the year 2016."
Wonderful First Review for "Notte di Tempesta" by Israel's biggest newspaper "Yediot Achronot"!

"Israeli Soprano Claire Meghnagi, particularly in demand as baroque singer, joins in a variety of Handel's arias. Outstanding in particular is Aci's aria Qui l'Augel da Pianta in Pianta (Aci, Galatea e Polifemo)... this stunning yet highly demanding aria, very high in tessitura, is performed by Meghnagi with remarkable sensitivity and extraordinary technique. Overall, Meghnagi's singing demonstrates how even intimate, quiet sentimental moments can be full of drama, like the Queen of Sheba's aria Will the Sun forget to Streak from Solomon, as the queen departs from Solomon."

Notte di Tempesta out next month at Fra Bernardo Media Label!

Notte Di Tempesta CoverWe are thrilled to announce that Claire's new CD Notte di Tempesta (recorded with Barrocade Ensemble and S. Kribus) will be released worldwide in June 2016 by the prestigious Fra Bernardo media label – state of the art in early music! The label writes of the CD: "Virtuosity in the late Baroque period was an intricate issue. On the one hand, its outward appearance is simple: the public attending the opera or a concert demanded to be overwhelmed by performers' technique. On the other hand, virtuosity served as a vehicle for profound drama; it provided imitation (of natural phenomena such as birds or storms, or instruments attempting to sound like voices and vice versa) and it often revealed composers' command over their craft. Supplying tailor-made arias for a star singer or concertos for a gifted performer, composers were often expected to demand all the special effects and tricks that performers had up their sleeve. For Handel and Vivaldi, such circumstances did not hinder inspiration." The CD is available here

"This upcoming May Claire Meghnagi, one of Israel's most appreciated sopranos, will perform with the Italian Ensemble "Concerto de' Cavalieri"... The virtuoso pieces of the program will allow Meghnagi to showcase all the qualities that made her name renowned in the baroque performance field : virtuoso technique, flexibility, vocal gleam, deep touching expression, and most important – her rare willingness to go "all the way" emotionally, and give her all on stage, without being dragged into artificial mannerism"

Haydn's Schöpfung with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra

October 30, 2012

Season continues with intensive performance schedule! For season opening concerts at the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Claire sang both roles of Gabriel and Eva in Haydn's monumental Die Schöpfung. Yet again Claire's performances are received by rave reviews: "Complete Perfection! If heaven exists, this is how the angels would sound like – pure gleaming voice, crystal clear, glowing as a diamond, supported by remarkable singing technique. I mean not only her excellent designed coloraturas, but also – and mostly - her focused vocal production. Her voice penetrates the space as a laser beam, without changing its beautiful color even in the highest register. On the contrary, her voice remains soft and round in all register ranges" ( For full reviews please visit our press page!

Season opens with sensational reviews for Matthäus-Passion

October 17, 2012

Claire has just opened her 2012/13 season with an 8 concert tour of Bach's Matthäus-Passion in Israel, with the Israel Netanya Kibbutz Orchestra. Her performances received great critical acclaim, as well as very enthusiastic ovations by the audience during the concert, as described in the critics: "Her Musical expression and delivery were genuinely touching, her singing personal, warm and heart-rending. We were lucky to receive a bonus: Mendelssohn's version gave the beautiful "Erbarme Dich" to his soprano, and so we received Meghnagi in a magnificent performance that received enthusiastic applause in the middle of the concert. This is perhaps not very customary, but felt completely right. Another highlight was the heart breaking aria "Aus Liebe", which was in my opinion, this concert emotional peak." (Omer Shomrony, Globes, October 10, 2012). Yediot Achronot, Israel's leading newspaper wrote: "The Israeli singer, much in demand in Israel and abroad, was at her best. Beautiful clean voice full of emotion and nuance, poised while expressing the words through music..." (Maxim Reider, Yediot Achronot, October 16, 2012). Editor of the prestigious Gramphone UK magazine, Mr. James Inverne, writes on the June Issue about the 6th Eilat Chamber Music Festival:

"Best of all, the Jewish festival of Purim was marked by an unusual celebration – a Venetian masque. A loose yet lovely narrative structure based around different kinds of love traversed traditional Venetian songs and works... a spirit of off-kilter fun pervaded the show, with humor... soprano Claire Meghnagi (dark, focused tone) found repose, languor, and reflection aplenty... top honours... to Avi Avital's supple, thrusting mandolin-playing..."
